Home Paintings 2007-2016
Over the past 10 years I have been painting still-life scenes that I photograph mainly in my kitchen. I call them the "home paintings". I shifted my reference from the moving screen that had inspired much of my work in the 90's (TV documentaries and reality series) and began to gaze more at and into my kitchen sink, counter top and oven. I take what seems trivial and inject it with meaning.
I relate to the sink and instruments on the kitchen as metaphors for parts of the human body and it's mechanisms. These are constant, changing, ordinary and subtle waves, ebbs and flows of life. A group of home paintings were last exhibited in a group exhibition in 2008, curated by Monica Lavi: "Now Me". A more recent set of home painting was exhibited in April 2011 in a solo exhibit called "When we walked on the moon", Givat Haim Ihud Kibbutz Gallery, curator: Hanush Morag. |
